Jackie would often tell Rose (as a child) stories about her wonderful dad and how much he would have loved to see her grow up. Rose asks the Doctor if she can see her father while he's alive. They travel back to her parents' wedding and then to the day her father was killed. Things go awry when Rose rescues her father from death. Reapers come down to Earth. As the Doctor, Rose (grown up and as a baby), her family and others hide in a church, the two Rose's come into contact and the Reapers enter the church. The Doctor sacrifices himself to save the others.

This is a clever episode and I liked it a lot. Rose finds out more about her Dad and sometimes the truth hurts - he's not as amazing as she'd thought / hoped. The TARDIS disappears leaving an empty police box. We deal with the problem of Rose meeting herself. It weakens time and the Reapers can enter the church. Time has been changed so we see the car that should have killed Pete, looping endlessly around the church. And finally, Pete's turns out to be pretty clever and brave. He figures out who Rose is and what needs to be done to fix things. He leaves the church and walks out in front of the looping car. This restores time and the Doctor. And Rose gets to be with her father at the end. We then flash forward to see Jackie telling stories to a young Rose. But the story has changed to fit the way Pete died.

Cute bit: Rose check for messages on her mobile phone, but all she gets is "Watson, come here. I need you." These are, of course, the first words spoken on a telephone system, by Alexander Bell. I guess this is done to suggests something's wrong with time.
