Quite possibly the best ever final episode I've ever seen. The defeat of the daleks is not unusual of course, but it was the manner in which it was achieved. The secret of Bad Wolf is revealed and it is truly amazing. Series I is a welcome return for Doctor Who and this episode capped it off brilliantly.
The Doctor and Jack travel in the TARDIS to a dalek ship and materialise around Rose and rescue her. A dalek is also included and destroyed by Jack. The Doctor steps out and demands to know how the daleks survived. "They survived through me" booms the Emperor dalek. The Emperor explains how he survived and re-built the dalek race using human cells. When Rose says this makes the daleks half-human, the Emperor calls this blasphemy. The daleks and the Emperor seem to have gone mad, with the Emperor believing he is a god.
The Doctor, Jack and Rose return to Satellite 5 to try and come up with a plan to destroy the daleks who are now invading the Earth. The Doctor and Rose try to build a delta-wave to wipe them out, while Jack sets off to organise the defenses. As he leaves, he kisses them both! Surely the first time we've seen the Doctor kiss a man.
The Doctor tricks Rose into the TARDIS and sends her back to her family. Jack approves. The Emperor insists the Doctor tell Jack the truth, that the delta-wave will wipe out humanity too. Jack tells the Doctor to do what he must. The Doctor continues his work.
Back on Earth, Rose is disconsolate and angry. Jackie says the Doctor did the right thing, returning Rose to her. Rose argues: how can she sit back and do nothing? She rushes outside, eventually noticing the words Bad Wolf all around her. She theorises it's actually a message to her. She rushes back to the TARDIS, determined to open the console and communicate with the TARDIS and get it to return her to the Doctor.
Mickey agrees to help with his car, but it's not powerful enough. Just as they're about to give up, Jackie turns up with a heavy-duty vehicle. Using that, Rose opens the console and looks into the light.
Back on Satellite 5 the Doctor is nearly finished. The resistance has been wiped out. Jack is the last to be killed. The Emperor challenges the Doctor to use the delta-wave and become as big a killer as the daleks. In the end, he can't do it. All seems lost, until Rose returns in the TARDIS.
She steps out, declares "I am Bad Wolf" and using the power of the Time Vortex wipes out the daleks and their fleet and scatters Bad Wolf messages across time for herself. She then revives Jack. The Doctor yells at her to stop. When she won't, he kisses her, drawing out the power of the time vortex and sending it back into the TARDIS. Rose collapses and the weakened Doctor carries her into the TARDIS and they depart, leaving Jack behind.
The time vortex has damaged the Doctor. He regenerates and we see the new Doctor (#10) played by David Tennant. Rose is stunned. The End. Brilliant.
