A disappointing, weak episode. The story line and setting had some potential, but was let down by plot holes, so-so story-telling and ill-defined characters.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory respond to a distress signal and land on a becalmed pirate ship. The crew are terrified of being injured as those that are are marked with a black spot and apparently killed by a Siren. After several rounds of this, the Doctor eventually figures out what's going on. They do their best to survive. Then Rory is knocked into the sea. The Doctor realises they can't save him and their only hope is be taken by the Siren as well. They find that's she an automated Doctor trying to make everyone well. The pirate captain and his son stay behind while the Doctor and Amy try and rescue Rory. He is rescued, just, and they are on their way again.

There were some humorous moments, eg. the Doctor walking the plank, but little else. Rory's apparent death, the pathetic CPR from Amy and then his recovery were just melodramatic. The eye patch lady reappeared to Amy - a recurring theme I suspect. Once again, the Doctor scans Amy using the TARDIS and finds her oscillating between pregnant and not. Bring on the next episode, this one is best forgotten.
