A powerful episode, including a veritable tour de force from Karen Gillan playing an older version of Amy, which sees Rory and Amy separated for a long period yet again and finishes with a terrible choice for Rory.

The Doctor takes Amy and Rory to Apalapacia, where a simple mix-up results in Amy entering a different, faster time-stream to Rory and the Doctor. The Doctor eventually figures out what is going on and manages to crash through to Amy's time-stream. Unfortunately Amy has had to wait 36 years, has aged visibly and now hates the Doctor.

A plan is conceived allowing both Amys to be rescued, but the Doctor has lied (Rule 1), only one can be saved and the Doctor locks the older Amy out of the TARDIS. He asks Rory to choose. Rory says, "But that's not fair, you're turning me into you." This is more solid insight from Rory. In the end, older Amy makes the choice for him. When young Amy wakes up, she asks "Where is she?" No-one can answer her.

This was one of the better episodes of the series. The script and acting were solid and the dangers of time-travel made real again. It will be interesting to see if there's any blowback for the Doctor from Amy, given her final line.
