An action- and information-packed series finale that wrapped up many, but certainly not all, loose ends from the past couple of series. A pretty good episode all up and one that foreshadows a lot that's ahead.

This episode is non-linear making it hard to summarise. The Doctor eventually tracks down Dorium Maldovar, surviving as a head, wanting to know why the Silence are after him. The Doctor has been running from his death for a long time. It is news of the Brigadier's death that finally makes him accept what he has to do. He asks the Teselecta to deliver the letters and everyone arrives at Lake Silencio at the appointed time.

River Song is able to resist the spacesuit and discharges her weapons pack. Time is frozen at 5:02pm and all of history occurs at once leading to some humorous juxtapositions. The Silents follow the Doctor into this timestream but he is rescued by Amy (Pond, Amelia Pond :). She takes the Doctor to Area 52 where River Song holds Madam Kovarian and some Silents as prisoners. They all where eye-drives so they can remember the Silents.

However it's all a trap. The Silents escape the prisons and disable their captors by messing with their eye-drives. They even go after Madam Kovarian. Amy refuses to help her and puts Kovarian's eye-drive back on causing her death.

Rory, Amy, River and the Doctor escape to the roof. The entire universe has been offering to help, but the Doctor refuses as everyone will suffer due to River's solution. In a short ceremony River and the Doctor are married, they kiss and the timeline is undone. River (back at Lake Silencio) kills the Doctor. And there it seems everything is as it should be.

We then see Amy, joined by River. River reveals the Doctor is not dead and we see how he used the Teselecta to make it look like he died. The Doctor returns Dorium to where he found him. Dorium recognises him and warns him he still has it all in front of him.

And so, we've come to a turning point. The Doctor had become "too big". Now everyone thinks he's dead and only Rory, Amy, River, Dorium and the Teselecta know otherwise. Perhaps his adventures will take on a different look now.

The Doctor / River Song enigma now seems to be largely settled. River both married him and murdered him (in different timelines) leading to their confused history.

The Doctor escaped again. Probably not the most satisfying escape, but it will do. I almost got it; I figured it was substitution, but I was thinking of a ganger.

There's still much to resolve with the Silence. Were they responsible for the exploding TARDIS (as some suggest) or will we find out why this happened? Will they catch up with the Doctor?

And then there's the question. Dorium insists that if the Doctor lives, on the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question that must never be answered will be asked: the first question, hidden in plain sight. He asks the Doctor if he wants to know the question. The Doctor nervously agrees. Later Dorium suggests that the question is what the Doctor has been running from all his life. Doctor Who? That is, who is the Doctor? What could be so terrible about the answer that the Silence want to prevent him answering.
