There was a lot of buzz around this episode due to the casting of Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones fame. In some ways, the episode didn't really live up to the hype. That's a little harsh, but it was essentially the usual manner of things: the Doctor getting into a jam; then a group of locals getting into a jam; and then the Doctor finding a clever way out for them all.
The Mire and their leader, known only as Odin, are pretty cool and vicious. The Vikings are believable and Ashildr (Williams) is a strong character. The interplay with Clara was better than it has been for a while. The Doctor translating baby (again) was very good and added to the story.
For mine though, there were two key highlights. First, the Doctor realising why he "chose this face" - harking back to soon after his regeneration and replaying footage from The Fires of Pompeii. Very cleverly done and significant in this Doctor's development I think. Secondly, the possible gift of immortality to Ashildr. How will that play out?
