Australia produced their best performance of the tournament - leaving supporters lamenting why they can't play like this all the time. We came very close to doing the impossible and in the end a draw was probably a fair result.

Both teams created a myriad of chances in a very open game. The statistics ended up favouring Chile - as you would expect for the world's #4 team - but they didn't have it all their own way. We went into the break 1-0 up and went within a whisker of getting to necessary 2-0. However, we were also lucky not to concede on several occasions. A draw was probably a fair result.

Looking back at the tournament, it was a case of what might have been if we could play at this level consistently. We might perhaps of snatched (a possibly unwarranted) draw against Germany, could have beaten Cameroon and made the semi-finals on today's result. Who knows. It's equally promising and frustrating.

Looking ahead, one would hope our players have taken some confidence and hope from today's result. The big question is: can we reproduce this form against Japan without the benefit of a couple of weeks together at a tournament?
