In general, I think it's a good idea to test yourself against the best. However, I feel this has back-fired on us on this occasion. The gulf between the two teams was very apparent and our defensive frailties were again exposed. I think this will damage our confidence in the lead-up to the Confederations Cup and encourage teams to attack us.

I suppose there are some mitigating circumstances. We were missing some key players either through injury or to give fringe players some experience. (Although you could argue that simply highlights our lack of depth.) We conceded a goal after just 12 seconds which does tend to put the game plan out the window. All that said though, we played poorly in some areas. We were starved of possession and gave it away too easily when we had it. We were lax in defence, especially in the air. The second and fourth goals were the product of poor marking (or laziness). I feel the level of commitment just wasn't there from the entire team.

On the flip-side, Brazil were very good. I haven't seen them play that sort of possession football before and they did it well. They were particularly strong in patiently waiting for an opportunity and then exploiting it with skill and speed. All up, Brazil will be well pleased with their performance and Australia gained very little.
