A lot has happened since our triumphal World Cup qualification last November. Postecoglou really did pull the pin after the match - something I still have trouble understanding. The FFA took forever to find a new coach for the World Cup. A short term appointment - possibly not a bad idea, but I'm not sure van Marwijk is the guy for that. We even know our head coach post-finals.

Our opponents were Norway. I had assumed they were reasonably strong but it turns out they failed to qualify for the World Cup and are ranked roughly 20 countries below us. Presumably then, they were chosen as a relatively easy team for a first hit-out under our new coach.

We started well by scoring first from a set piece. After that though, it seems we struggled. Words like hesitant and disorganised are being bandied about. Norway equalised just before half-time and then went on with it in the second half. They've struggled to score from open play recently but managed four against us. You'd have to say - hat-trick notwithstanding - that our defence can't have been too good. Worst of all, we're being tolled on social media by our World Cup opponents.

We've got a friendly against Colombia - a much tougher opponent and coming off a win against France - in a few days. Followed by just three months to get ready for the finals. I expect teething problems as the team adapts to a new coach, system and tactics. However it does not look good at the moment.
