Circumstances conspired to prevent me from seeing the game. Reports suggest I didn't miss much. We played a defensive game and managed to contain a very well prepared Japan and escape with a 0-0 draw. In the scheme of things, ie. qualifying, a good result.

Japan, and their coach, were under a lot of pressure to win. They spent five weeks preparing and were very sharp all game, but couldn't find the killer blow. We had limited preparation and didn't create much in attack. Nonetheless, a solid defensive effort is something to take from the match.

We're now at the half-way mark of this round of qualifiers. We're in first place in our group and the top two go through. We're six points in front of 3rd and 4th. Mathematically we haven't qualified, but the press are talking up a win in our next match as being enough. Again, not really true, but probably close enough in practice. I must get along to the next, which will be in Sydney.
