At any other time, this would have been a marvellous result. Unfortunately today it was not enough. Cahill and Holman gave us a glimmer of hope mid-way through the second half, but in the end we fell short and our tournament is over.

We began the game needing a win and several goals to stay alive in the tournament. We fielded a reasonably attacking team, but we really didn't go for it. At half-time it was 0-0 in both games. We really need to shake things up as it seemed clear Germany weren't going to thrash Ghana. But Verbeek procrastinated. It was only when news came through that Germany had scored that he rolled the dice - he made two subs and changed the formation. And we went for it. Incredibly we scored two goals in quick succession. The latter from Holman, will linger long in the memory. We dared to dream. Bu then we conceded and it was all over.

We hung on to be deserved victors - our first win over a European team at the finals. Our spirit and skill were plain to see. But we were left to lament a shocker against Germany which crueled our chances.
