A match that was talked up as a comfortable win for Australia was very nearly a disaster of epic proportions. As it was, we were lucky to escape with a draw. Jordan defeated Japan overnight meaning we've slipped to third in our group. It's going to be very tough from here to ensure we achieve a top-2 spot.

Our performance overall was poor and harked back to our previous qualifier. We were unambitious in the first half and largely ineffective in the second. Our tactics were debatable - a poor effort from Osieck - and we inexplicably re-introduced the long ball game. We really must improve on this.

While dominating possession in the first half, we were playing a side looking only to counter-attack. They did this very effectively and made a dream start, scoring in just the 6th minute. We hardly looked like scoring and went into the break down by this goal. The second half got off to a disastrous start when we conceded an own goal after just a few minutes. Thankfully a Tim Cahill header a couple of minutes later meant we didn't have to dwell on being 0-2 down for long.

We started to look more creative and put more effort in but it was still uninspiring. A long range effort from Brett Holman saved our bacon. We pressed on looking for the winner, but couldn't manage it.

About the only plus on the night was the delayed telecast on SBS. Just one hour behind, it meant being able to watch the match from home.
