Phone Conference Neologism

With the school holidays, I was at work, Jamie and Tinkerbell were staying at Jamie's Mum's and Naruto was at his cousins' house. For the morning catch-up call I called Jamie and conferenced in the cousin's house, so we could all talk at once. Naruto was a little confused at first, he thought Jamie and I must be together, but then I explained what was happening. His response, "So it's like a tri-connection." Brilliant, much better than phone conference. I will use it from now on.

Modern Gaming

The kids and I were having a game of cards today. Good old, low-tech cards. The low-tech effect was somewhat ruined when Tinkerbell left to go to the toilet with, "Pause the game, Dad."

Not White Bread

I think it is generally accepted that kids prefer white bread over brown. Naruto, on the other hand, has always preferred brown, probably because that's all we ever gave him. Last night we were out of bread so I popped out to the local store to get some more. They only had white bread left so that's what I got.

So when I made Naruto a sandwich for his lunch today it was made with white bread. Now I know he prefers brown, but do you really expect the following from a kid.

Naruto: What's this sandwich? White bread?!

He almost didn't eat it.

High Phones

Yet another phone conversation with Tinkerbell in a similar vein to I'm So Dizzy. Tinkerbell is at home and I'm at work. The home phone was in hands-free (loudspeaker) mode.

Tinkerbell: I'm holding the phone up high, can you reach it?

Truth in Dreams?

Tinkerbell had a dream last night which she described to me.

Tinkerbell: There was a monster in a box and it got out and Naruto put it back in. And you were in the dream too!
Me: Really? Did I help you with the monster too?
Tinkerbell: No, you were on the computer and Mummy was out shopping.

They notice everything don't they :)

When You're Invisible

Jamie picked Tinkerbell up from pre-school today. Unfortunately Tinkerbell was quite enjoying what she was doing and pretended to be very busy and ignored Jamie.

Jamie: Hello Tinkerbell.
Tinkerbell: I can't see you Mummy.
Jamie: Does that mean I'm not here?
Tinkerbell: Yes.

Mind Your Language

Jamie was driving with Tinkerbell today. When another driver cut in front and forced Jamie to brake heavily, the following conversation ensued.

Jamie: You *^(#$ idiot!
Tinkerbell: Mummy, you said a bad word. Don't call someone an idiot.

I'm So Dizzy

Here's an excerpt from a phone conversation between Tinkerbell (at home) and me (at work) today. The home phone was in hands-free (loudspeaker) mode.

Tinkerbell: Are you dizzy?
Me: No, why?
Tinkerbell: Because I'm spinning the phone.
Me: Oh I see. That doesn't make me spin.
Tinkerbell: I could spin the house, then you would.

Playschool Turns 40

The venerable institution that is Play School turns 40 today. I watched it and loved it as a kid. And now my kids do too. The SMH has some coverage.

Missing Mummy

Jamie is away at a school camp all this week. After only two days I heard Tinkerbell singing, "I hope my Mummy comes back Friday because I miss her everyday."
